He was the most gracious of men. He could be dignified, powerful, raunchy and even ribald on stage. Knowing him has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
I had a vague memory from 1969 that I saw Muddy at the Rockpile. So I deferred to my brother who I suspected was with me that day. He set me straight. "Muddy & John Lee Hooker, Good Friday '69. We talked to harp player Paul Oscher on Saturday on Yonge St. He bemoaned no beer before show cause religious holiday." Such a great article on one of my favorite's, Muddy Waters, who led me to so many great blues artists. I was introduced to him by my guitarist boyfriend in Stinson Beach circa 1969 or so. Chris actually ended up moving to Vancouver to escape the draft and he played music up there. Memories...
