... Because Duncan Fremlin's stories as funny, trenchant and readable as the ones I tell. He mainly covers different music than the stuff I write about, and that's cool...
I'm new around here, but the first Substack I signed up for was Michael Barclay's. I find it a fascinating source of music I've not heard before, as well as lucid, smart and well-expressed opinions about current music. And the listings of Toronto area music gigs are invaluable for a guy who goes out three/four nights a week to hear live music...
Loved this writer when she was a "regular" in The Grope and Fail; delighted to discover (the miracle of Substack) that she's now living in my favourite city in the world. Delighted, too, to see that she's facing difficult times with humour and optimism. (Note to self: must suggest some good pubs for her.)
Disclosure: Sarah Jane is one of my favourite singers, and has been since I first met her when she was working in a coffee shop on College Street in Toronto. She has sass and wit and kindness, and I wish she wouldn't live so far away.
